I was in Tescos yesterday and on the fish counter they had farmed Carp for sale! I've never seen this before and I can't imagine it being very tasty. Anyone on here enjoy a bit of Carp for lunch?

Indeed. Very popular in Eastern Europe.

It has to be left in clear spring water for a few days before killing otherwise you end up with that classic fresh water fish 'muddy' taste.

Not tired it my self, but I'd give it a go.

If it stops them stealing fish from rivers then it can't be bad.

I think some importees from E. Europe are surprised at how many rules there are in a 'free democracy'.

Hopefully now the Eastern Europeans will stop fking stealing prized fish from our lakes and rivers.

Something tells me it'll still happen.

I believe you can take trully wild fish if you have permission to fish/rod licence, but many of the carp that are poached belong to someone and are very valuable!

Morrisons are also selling Carp and I am quite tempted to buy one as the last time I tried Carp I dont think I did it justice!

I'm not surprised, given the number of Eastern Europeans now resident in the UK. Stocking practices change to reflect changing demographics.

Last time I made carp for Christmas (a few years ago now), the only place I could find it was Harvey Nichols. I can't remember exactly how much it cost, other than 'a fk of a lot'.

It needs to be properly prepared to taste any good - google recipes for Carp à la Juive and have a go.

According to the Poles at work they are commonly bought live and kept in the bath for a few days beforehand
