Something like this?

just wondered if it was any good and at least it doesn't take that much room up as per the normal ones or am I deluding myself?

Would work well for that but haven't bought one as, other than that it is a little smaller, I can't see it bringing anything to the party that the Italian coffee pot doesn't and you also need to have something else to boil the hot water in, whereas with the pot it's all in one, save the stove obviously!
In your shoes I'd wait until after Christmas and you'll pick up a coffee gift set from one of the supermarkets for peanuts with one in. Last year we got a number of 2 cup cafétiers (SP!) to leave at various friends houses for about £1 each that way!

I've used one at work for a few years now (about to open my third pack of 300 filters...) and I'm very happy with it. I don't believe it makes espresso, more shots of strong filter coffee, but it's still going strong with near daily use and makes good coffee. If you do fancy one, shop around. Places like Firebox sell them for a hefty markup, while other places like Coffee Hit do them much cheaper.
