Brocolli stalks - What to do with them
Discussion
For the last 10 years we've been giving our brocolli stalks to the rabbit who would get through a large one in a single night.
Now he's passed away, it seems such a shame to chuck out a chunky brocolli stalk - particularly as you pay per kg!
So what can I do with it to eat it ourselves?
Can you slice it up like a carrot and cook accordingly?

Saw the blonde Irish cook lady strip off the outer hard skin, chop the rest up and fry it IIRC. I will see if I can find a linky.

I snap them off in the supermarket as I'm not willing to pay for something I'd throw away.
Absolutely.I thing they cut the lower parts off to make the "trimmed" broccoli in the bags, then sell the bits, with the longer stalks to us loose.
I snap them off. f
k you, supermarkets.

Just eat it?
Why wouldn't you just cook and eat it? I almost can't believe anyone would throw away the bulk of the vegetable. Admittedly the skin may be a bit tough, but it's easy enough to peel. Do you do the same with cauliflower?

I must admit we've always just cooked it and eated it. We have been known to remove the very "woody" bit (as you would with asparagus), but to just eat the florets (sp?) seems a bit of a waste.
He said "eated it"! :Pointsfingerandmakesfunsmilie:
Should have been "eaten" - stoopid fingers.
