As funds are getting tighter and tighter, I have given up my beloved Nescafe Gold in favour of Sainsbury's Gold which is half the price! Surprisingly good actually which is nice, some cheap instant coffees are horrible.

So what instant coffee do you guys like? Any recommendations? smile

And yes - I do drink proper filter coffee occasionally, but sadly being a student this is not very often frown

Kenco Millicano is pretty good as instant goes. Tastes like a halfway house between fresh and instant.
I love a nice proper coffee, but a good strong cup of instant does the job from me first thing in the morning.

I don't get the snobbery, I really like Nescafe instant but I like 'proper' coffee as much as the next man.

Mellow Birds is fking gopping though,

Douwe Egberts works for me.

In 1988 I met their marketing manager at an exhibition and he was an arrogant twonk. I still think of him every time I buy some.

A twonk perhaps, but evidently not entirely bad at marketing hehe

Loads of people love it, but I was never a fan. Tastes strange to me frown

Which reminds me - yesterday I saw an advert for something that claimed to be between instant and real.

Damned if I remember the name though.

Ginger-bearded twonk, where are you?

Dow Egberts here. I think it is called 'Gold', there are different variations. I have cupboards of it, it is rarely on special offer.

Hate Nescafe.

I also don't see the problem with instant stuff - I've got the proper hob top espresso maker for the weekend mornings, when you have time to relax and do it properly. But sometimes quick and easy is the order of the day. My pick at the moment is Rocket Fuel;

In all the normal supermarkets, forget the tacky packaging and name - this is the smoothest and richest instant coffee I've tried. Better than the Millicano stuff.

Nescafé original.
As for 'mellow', 'smooth blend', bks - my coffee should have an edge - that's what it's for.

I now have a filter cone and drink far too much 'Hot Lava Java' than is probably good for me. wink

I saw that in the shop and was put off by the branding - I find most energy/pick me up type drinks revolting and thought this might be the same. I might give it a whirl when my current jar runs out.

This is one of the few that I like, I'm not a coffee snob but a lot of instant is fairly grim IMO.

Douwe Egberts for me but it seems to be rocketing up in price. A year ago it would be £5.00 for a big jar but now £6.60.

Wish my wages would increase like that frown

Nescafe Espresso, 3 spoons into a regular cup with plenty of milk, a kind of semi-latte with a kick.

I used to like Rocket Fuel but it seemed to completely change when they went from powder to granules, I can't seem to get on with many of the other instants but will drink anything if I'm thirsty enough smile
