I can see some people may have limited useo ftheir hands to do this - arthritis maybe...but mass appeal from supermarkets?

Making mayonnaise is easy. Making mayonnaise that doesn't taste fking awful, somewhat less so.

Easier and cheaper to buy it.

I like the Sainsburys Basic Colslaw as its cut a bit chunkier than their normal colslaw. Anyway 46p for a 500g tub

Lets see, to make it Basic mayonaise is 48p, so its already more expensive before I have bought the rest of the ingredients.

To be honest its not worth the effort.

Ready-chopped onions I can 'sort of' understand, but who is that lazy / inept they can't chop a swede and a few carrots? For a stew that's going to take ages to cook anyway.

I can't but then I have never suffered with runny eyes cutting them. I keep mine in the fridge which is supposed to help.
