Best hot dog I ever had was many years ago in my local pub. The rolls had holes in them and put on hot spikes to warm/toast the inside then the dog and sauce 'slipped' in. Bit like this but more industrial and the rolls weren't spit............
Whilst searching for that I came across this. Check out the video ..................

Edit: I choked on my lager when some guy shouted to the landlord "two Vlads please guy"
Had something very similar in a French service station, served in a thin baguette, was awesome.Whilst searching for that I came across this. Check out the video ..................

IMHO of course....
The best easily available hotdogs are from Lidl. If you have a decent Polish Deli in the area then go to their meat counter and ask for a few of each and try them out. Most major supermarkets stock Berlinki which is decent enough. And for those suggesting Kielbasa, I'm sorry but this is the Polish version of the Slovak Klobása which is an infinitely better sausage.
If you're feeling a bit adventurous have a go at making Krumpli guláš which is essentially a guláš made from sausages rather than meat.

no one suggest armour yet?...hot dogs armour hot dogs what kind of kids eat armour hot dogs....etc.
herta are fine if not great. the unearthed i find too tougher skin and dont trust the lidl/aldi/supermarket own for content...silly as there no doubt all fall of crap.
the polish cheesy ones are ok, but some are also really chewy. some of the variations of the M&S posh dog are also ok. Most on here seem to be sausages masquerading as dogs.
The cheese filled dogs at Disney used to be epic and there was an italian branded (at least) one in the late 90's that had gooey cheese in, thicker than the previously mentioned polish ones, that were an amazing in from school quick snack.
there are a few street stools in towns ive been in that have german 'hot dogs' of different kinds and the cheese filled Käsekrainer are usually good when i have tried.
i think the five guys beef dog and shake shake versions are decent too. wonder where they get them from?
i would like to find a NY street vendor type dog in the UK, soft, slippery, dissolves in the mouth upon chewing but tasty, the craptastic ye olde oak tinned ones promise a similar texture is but don't dissolve in the mouth much, don't taste great and are full of grindy bits if you chew too much.

For starters NY street vendor hot dogs are beef, and those Ye Olde Oak ones are all chicken, so it is never going to taste right. These are what are used in NYC:https://sabrett.com/products/hot-dogs/
Most of the mass produced supermarket sold hotdogs are chicken, few are pork, and none I have found are beef, which I suspect as it is the cheapest meat and consumers still buy them. I grew up with pork/beef hotdogs, so avoid these fake chicken dogs as to me they are wrong!
The Meica Bockwurst in jars are the nicest I've tried, although harder to find. I know Ocado stock them.
And reading the ingredients isn't horrifying as with some of the other makes (like Wikinger for example, don't ever read before consuming those haha).
Pork 77%, Water, Salt, Spices, Spice Extracts (contains Celery), Dextrose, Antioxidant: Ascorbic Acid, Preservative: Sodium Nitrite, Smoked over Natural Beech Wood
Real German Bockwurst
6 German sausages in brine
Meica is Germany's favourite sausage - and with good reason! That is why we do much more than what is demanded by the strict food laws. Sausage fans have trusted Meica for 100 years. We are determined to justify that trust.
Germany's No. 1 sausage brand, Without the addition of flavour enhancers, Without colourings, Lactose and gluten-free
Their Frankfurters are not as good though. Much tougher skins and they're curved instead of straight.
