THE STEAK THREAD, served a la Man
Discussion
There was a massive basket of french fries for us all to share in the centre of the table but there just wasn't any room on my plate for them along with the meat.
My friend and I started eating properly with knives and forks but I'm afraid we ended up caveman style, just grabbing hunks of meat and tearing chunks off with our teeth, very satisfying for us but slightly disappointing for our wives, tee hee.
Here's a photo of some pieces of the meat on my plate with a smear of the mushroom sauce.

SWMBO Dad's 60th last weekend. He always complains he never gets steak so here we go:
Six of The Ginger Pig's finest centre cut fillet steaks, these are about 10oz each. I'd normally opt for ribeye or sirloin but fillet was requested
Cooked:
At last a piece of steak that looks like it's been cooked properly.....Six of The Ginger Pig's finest centre cut fillet steaks, these are about 10oz each. I'd normally opt for ribeye or sirloin but fillet was requested

far too many raw not rare steaks for my liking on the thread.....

Is the meat good from there? Was given the recipe books for Christmas which is fantastic, but haven't got round to getting hold of meat from there yet! I'm trying to work my way through it, but it's proving difficult as the missus doesn't eat meat Six of The Ginger Pig's finest centre cut fillet steaks, these are about 10oz each. Depends what you like really. That filet looks good but, for me, it has been cooked too long. Filet just need to graze a smoking pan or eaten raw far too many raw not rare steaks for my liking on the thread.....

The quality is good and the prices aren't over the top.I'm a fan - the branches I've been to are basically very good butchers. They routinely stock the cuts you won't see in many other places - like pig and ox cheeks and beef short ribs. And, if they have them, they'll sell you chicken carcasses or beef bones for stock for very little.
It seems that they are heading towards becoming a 'brand', so I don't know if that will change things, but their sausage rolls are still epic! I'm currently pondering about signing up to one of their butchery classes!

We have one near us in Clapham and it is good I think their bacon and other pork cuts on offer are better than the other local butchers along with the french muscovy duck they stock but not a fan of their sausages. Good range of chickens from those yellow corn fed french birds, local free range and also the 100 day old birds you slow cook but I prefer the Sutton Hoo available from another local butcher.
As for beef it varies I was in this evening and they had very little on offer as it was near closing time though other times you can get some british rib eye that has marbling not too different to kobe. They also offer forgotten cuts we had a chuck steak roast on the bone a few weeks back that was incredible.
Thanks guys, it sounds as if I definitely have to go there, even if it's just for sausage rolls! A favourite of mine. Like I say, the book is fantastic, well worth getting. Not only is there recipes, but it talks about the months of the year and how things change throughout the year which is really interesting!
