Following my Restaurants in Norfolk thread, I visited Benoli in Norwich as it coincided with a visit to the city:

Beef Carpaccio with parmesan and bone marrow potato bread.

Roast Salmon with tomato and clam panzanella with tempura soft shell crab and a side salad.

Dulce de leche

It had the right amount of peas too, none! wink

The evening was an absolute triumph and I completely understand why people say there is nothing better than dining alone with a good book (see the 'what are you reading' thread for that side of things) Although everything was the best I've ever eaten, the salmon was astonishing, melt in the mouth and fell away from the skin so delicately. I wish I could cook it like that!

Benoli has a Michelin star, which is well deserved but the atmosphere felt so down to earth, bookings and walk ins peppered my visit while the chef brought out food to guests. I've been to restaurants that don'tt have a star (and where the food isn't as good) being more snooty and 'polished.' I just wish I was more local as many of the my diners appeared to be.

If it's the Anchovies that get to you then fair enough - if it's Wifey's Carbonara then choose your weapon and I'll meet you at dawn punch

My lamb and beetroot suet pudding with braised peas from Sunday.

The pastry was a bit thick in places, but nothing some extra lamb gravy couldn't fix. Not bad for my first attempt.

I love anchovies but that is not a well-matched combo IMO. Notwithstanding, your dinner so do what you want with your plate!

Back bacon?

You need guanciale, or at worst, some decent pancetta.

Looks great for a first effort. Would want to see it a bit more brown pastry wise but look great

In my experience a pudding would not be browned.

I don’t mean browned like a pie but they are not normally that pale. It may be the camera

Finished my 12 hour shift at 1900 Sunday and threw this together.

Thrown in the bin would have been far better
Surely your name should be dunbeingkind? Anyway, looks ok after a 12 hour shift! OK, It's not 5 star restaurant quality but I'd quite happily scoff that!

Satisfactory pea count, and the side of suet pud looks good as well.
