Swedish turnip or simply turnip as the Scots and most cornish call it is the only accepted choice.
Pretty sure Scots call 'em "neeps"...![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
I wrote "pretty sure" in order that someone could clarify, as I am quite happy to be corrected. Thank you for correcting me so pleasantly and for the

Not sure what your getting your kickers in a twist over it was perfectly polite!
The snigger was my final line about the places I mention, but I guess only a local would get that. Apols.

Was about to order a few but then saw it was £20 postage. Ouch! Finally tried a Lucy bakes (hayle) the other day after strong recommendations on CO...never again. Horribly overthick doughy pastry and a stodgy fillingin both thr cornish and Chese and onion.. Perhaps worth another go as we all know sometimes even the nest pasties have an off day, has been sitting too long etc and infair tonjudge on one but don't fancy popping in again.
i forgot to mention on this topic, these are on par with the best pasties:

There’s nothing like a proper, home-made traditional Cornish pasty.
My friend used to constantly tell me how his mums home made traditional pasties were unbeaten and the best in Cornwall. Finally got to try one, looked absolutely amazing but turned out to be a bit boring and bland taste wise - not enough seasoning, didn't dare tell her and just said it was great - a Prima would of trounced it in a taste competition ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

That’s been my general experiences with other people’s home made ones, I think it’s a bit like a Sunday roast, you love your mums and the one you make yourself, then you visit someone else and they serve you a plate of stuff that makes you go ‘WTF is this?!’ ![silly](/inc/images/silly.gif)
Nailed it ![silly](/inc/images/silly.gif)

Here’s my entry for the World pasty championships ![silly](/inc/images/silly.gif)
Plenty of pepper (and salt) means it definitely isn’t bland

Did it snag you a trophy?
If I revealed that you could potentially google the results and find out my identity.![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

Any idea why they canned the competition? It seems a shame not to keep promoting and pushing something as distinctive and unique to the county.
Yes, it was a shame. I think there was a not insignificant cost in putting on the competition and not enough sponsors to help support it.Most recently they had some sort of event to coincide with St Piran’s day which involved pasty making but not an actual competition.
