Boris suggesting automated trains!

He's right, look at the Docklands Light Railway.

He's making a point to the union. It'll be expensive to do because of the signalling issues, which is why it's not been done yet, but if he gets angry enough there's no reason why it couldn't happen. So perhaps they might like to play nice?

On the victoria line the drivers job is to open and close doors i believe it was designeed to be fully automatic.
A few years back the drivers were reminded not to have feet on the dash or to read when coming into stations as it scared the public

True but it makes them easier and cheaper to train which means even managers or temps can do it to cover the strike eventualities, which makes strikes redundant.

The Trains in Lille work very well, run to time and are quit quick. Donot know why they couldn't automate most of the Underground.

BART in San Francisco has been automated since the '70s...drivers just there to give public comfort
