Is there any truth that the Russians were also fed with plans a data that had been 'modified' by British Intelligence ?
Yes. About 15 years ago there was a documentary on CH4 about the whole Tu-144 saga and in it they mentioned the industrial espionage that took place. The Russians were having trouble with their tyre compounds so tried to find out what was being used on Corncord. The French secret service got wind of this and arranged for them to steal some formulations, if followed to the letter these "formulations" would've produced something resembling a cross between snot and bubble gum!
The Bristol newspaper article states that one of the differences between Concorde and the Tu144 was that the Tu144 had its engines grouped under the fuselage and not on the wings. The picture shows the engines under the wings - although not as far out as on Concorde.
They are confusing the prototype Tu144 with the later pre-production and production models.
The prototype was almost a completely different aeroplane to the later versions. It had a different wing shape, engines located differently andd lacked the retractable canards.
