Extinct aircraft

Which no-longer-flying types would we most like to see back in the air, either from a restoration or a realistic replica?

(Apart from Concorde which is obvious.)

I'd nominate:

Mosquito - At least one restoration is in progress
Hornet - Replica needed
Typhoon (1940's version)
HP42 - There was a project to build a replica but it all went quiet.

There's two actually.
Jerry Yagan's FB.26 being rebuilt with Glyn Powell's new build fuselage and wing structure's down in NZ and over in Canada, Bob Jens B.35 is getting slowly put back together for a return to the air which was scheduled for this year, but I'm not sure on current status. I suspect, of the two, that Jerry Yagan's will fly first, maybe next year sometime.

However, to the original question, a Hornet would be wonderful, but next to impossible.

Typhoon - I'd love to hear a Napier Sabre. Jenks thought it the best sound, as opposed to noise, ever.

Well, Kermit Weeks has a Napier Sabre engined Tempest V on loooooong term restoration down at PPS at Booker. He has two potentially suitable engines as well, but, although, it will be restored to airworthy standards, a recent interview with Kermit on the subject hinted that even when finished, it might not ever be flown..... but even a ground running Napier Sabre would be something

I'd travel a long way to see/hear that. Mind you PPS are only about 20 minutes away!

Well hopefully if you look skyward next summer here in the UK you will see a Mosquito flying
Jerry Yagan announced that if all goes to plan that his Mosquito will spend next summer here in the UK before heading to the USA.

Re. the Hornet, there is a very long term (due to lack of money) project to build one.
