Amusing finds
The other two with my find were A Practical Encyclopedia for Children again 1948 and General Knowledge Illustrated Vol 2. Could not find much on the latter one other than than the introduction had been done by a J.F. Roxburgh founder headmaster of Stowe School. The first page is 377 and starts in the middle of a sentence.
They certainly packed some infomation into books those days, but children would find them of little interest nowdays.

Must have been nice, living in a country full of interesting things with a proud heritage they weren't afraid of.I staggered through 10 minutes of 'Bang goes the Theory' today, the Beeb's tragically dumbed down version of TW. The presenter made Ben Fogle look intelligent; he couldn't even understand the concept of anti-matter. Blue Peter c.1970 would run rings round them.
