Fast jets over Oxford....
Discussion
Just had what appeared to be a DC3 fly over my house, nearish harrogate. Sounded all nice and rumbely
Managed to get a rather crap pic of it on my phone, as it was so high up flying back past. I can upload it if anyone likes? It was a very dark green, with what appeared to be large white stripes on the body near the tail.

That's a dragon, not a plane. It's the Abingdon airshow tomorrow at (surprise, surprise) the old RAF Abingdon. I would assume that the aircraft you saw were heading that way - I believe that the Dutch F-16 rehearsed today. Unfortunately, MoD Defence Estates are being [Gene Hunt]Bass-tards[/Gene Hunt] and have withdrawn the approval for the organisers to use the runway and taxiways for a charity airshow at 36 hours notice. Thus, the airfield is closed to all fixed wing operations tomorrow, and all participating aircraft will take off and land from other bases in the area (RAF Brize Norton, for example).

There you go guys. Unfortuantly my camera phone isnt the best, and that was it flying back over my house. The first time it flew over, it was about 100ft off the deck, and i had no chance to grab my phone
It did sound lovely though like i said

We get bloody all sorts here. Fast jets, which look like tornados and sometimes harriers. Theyre either up high, or REALLY low, either way they make some noise. Theres also constantly a couple of what look like WW2 fighters, which are most likely trainers, buzzing about. On nice days they appear to be play dogfighting from the sounds they make, pulling off some tight manouvers etc.
Also get some bigger things, like Chinooks, that like nothing better thatn apparantly flying so low at night i crap myself and think theyre going to hit my car as im driving home. Or just flying so low, i have to look DOWN upon them from my house.
C130's like to buzz the local school, its all fun here

Its a Dakota all right
I have seen a Dak at Kemble a few years ago painted in that scheme, dark green with D-Day invasion stripes as you describe
I think we'd better all wait for Eric to pop along and tell all
Wish my phone camera pictures were that good
mind you I could have ten grandsworth of Nikon-nery and still get crap pictures, shouldnt complain really

Few pics of the BoB Dak here :
