Went model slope soaring after work today at Callow Bank above Hathersage. About 5:00pm a Chinook flew past along the Hope Valley, way below us. Pulled up to clear Camp Hill / Hucklow ridge and away.

Not uncommon to see military aircraft flying down the valley, but not seen any for a while.

Just before that, there was a light aircraft flying over Stanage Edge / Hallam Moors, very low, heading towards Sheffield. Come to think of it, I can't remember seeing an aircraft flying in the Peak District that low before (apart from rescue helicopters and gliders).

A lot of people (civil and military) were out enjoying the blue sky and light winds yesterday - every frequency I was on seemed very active. Probably be a very busy weekend.

Low flying over open contryside is (currently) quite legal - just have to remain 500ft clear of any structure, vehicle, vessel, person, etc - which can be horizonal or vertical.
