I'd say she was probably not far from the Falklands at the moment?

I wouldn't get your hopes up that she's off South. She'll still be being shaken down. Astute has a lot of new technology on board which will take time to V&V all the equipment. A quick google makes no mention of her having completed TLAM trials.

Keep an eye out for the T Boats, they if any, will be the ones headed south as they have the same TLAM capability that Astute has.

Wouldn't it be worth going down that way to do it shake down though?

Bit far for engineering support if it goes wrong. She'll be staying northerly, probably the same patch of sea where we used to do the trials I'd imagine.

Awesome boats. I'm due a visit when a certain still serving mate of mine gets his finger out. smile

Lucky git. I was one of the design team, but left just before she went down the slip. I was promised an in invite but the farkers never sent one - still angry about that.

There was a battleship in WW2 that was launched so urgently it sailed with workmen still on board finishing off. Might have been a carrier, can't remember.

Saw her sailing from Faslane the other day for sea trials - no doubt out and about off West of Scotland.

Yep, they buy German these days, but then after hiding so many escaping Nazis after the war they probably still have the contacts. They no longer buy our cast off's which is a shame, we could easily have sent them all a software update that makes them all fire at each other. biggrin

Well, in terms of guessing where Astute is & what it's doing at the moment, rhinochopig & skyslimit are the closest by far. Basically it's undergoing a series of Sea Trials interspersed with periods alongside in Faslane. Can't say more than that unfortunately.
