I do believe that the APU was removed at some point last year so the CoG was a bit to the rear to begin with.

Very cool and very eerie. Almost as if that "cold war" jet wants to join 558 in the sky!

Why dont they make it fly again? How big is it? I know it's big, but those people look like ants next to it!

If you were familiar with the project of getting XH558 flying then you'd understand that there was no way of getting XL319 flying again. 319 last flew in the early 1980's whereas 558 was the best example left which is why she flew with the RAF until 1993. Even then £15 million was needed to get the thing flying again in 2007 and that was with a hangar full of spares including the last airworthy engines. Basically 319 is past it.

Anyway, as for the size... it's about the same size as a Boeing 737.

I'm about half an inch off of 6ft and this is me next to XH558's nose leg

Here's a vid of XH558 if you want to see one flying smile

I think that 319 looks pretty good in the "take off" pose and should actually be displayed like that when the snow has gone smile

She will be won't she as they have placed sleepers under the nosewheel so when the snow melts she doen't come back down to the ground with a crash!

Try Vulcan to the Sky's own websitw - http://www.vulcantothesky.org/

If they don't raise sufficient funds, she won't be appearing anywhere.

My Grandfather was involved in scrapping some of them at St Athan and has a picture of one in a similar pose that ended up that way after being left overnight through a storm.
Will ask him if he can find it next time I see him and get it scanned.
