Hey
Struggling to find my old man a christmas present. He's an ex merchant navy engineer so am looking for some related books for him, anyone have any suggestions? I've seen this but seems to be out of print and don't fancy giving him an ex libary copy for christmas!

Has he read any of Brian Callison's novels, such as Trapp's War ? As an ex-MN engineer myself I liked them

Go to borders, the one near me has loads of books on ships and shipbuilding etc - though that might be because of the area I live in. Also look in the history / war stuff as there's plenty of stuff there on historical ships etc. I just cleared them out of a lot of books for myself and my old man as we're a family of marine engineers hehe

Try Warsash Nautical Bookshop, they have a website, and obviously loads of nautical books.

Not really literature, but a good set of books nevertheless, is the "Anatomy of the Ship" series. I have a U-Boat and Corvette escort vessel editions, but there are plenty of others on ancient, old and new ships (e.g. Endeavour, Bismarck, Belfast, Intrepid). Although there is quite an extensive write-up on each ship's design and evolution, they comprise dozens and dozens of plans, diagrams, cross-sections and the like.
