They probably scaled up the Hasegawa or Revell model blueprints.

I'd rather hope they used the Tamiya kit as a blueprint.biggrin

There is a serious flaw in the Tamiya model - which even Mr Tamiya now admits to and says is his greatest regret (he was interviewed by Brett Green on Hyperscale a few months ago). Appatently, the fuselkage cross section is too slab sided. It should have been much more "ovoid" in shape. Airfix, Hasegawa and Revell have got it right.

Really, hmmm! will have to check that. Was that 1/72 or 1/48th?

Tamiya is 1/48 (it's just been re-released).

The Airfix, Hasegawa and Revell Lancasters are all 1/72.

No, PJ and his team have been crawling all over actual Lancs with tape-measures, notepads and 3D topographical scanners.

Very interesting. Would be good to see some detail pictures.
I wonder what will happen to the 10 after filming is over. Hopefully a few will make it to the UK - gate gaurdians ?

I'm sure i read some place that he was also loaned at least a nose section of a Lanc from Kermit Weeks for the film.

This may be filmed in 3D. Before people have horrific flashbacks to the 80's and rides in theme parks, modern 3D cinema is a much superior product.

Too dry for my uneducated wit.

just had a closer read of the article. Good on David Frost for sticking with the proper name for the dog (and of course the code). I'd rather they be damned by fools for not changing it, rather than being damned by the sensible for pandering and changing it.

Yes. The use of the word "" for the code is more important than its use as the dog's name.

Surely as it's being funded with Hollywood money they should be using B17s.

Given WETA are CGI experts, I do hope it doesn't end up looking like a computer game with bewildered looking actors pretending in front of green screens.

It's not being funded by Hollywood.

And a B-17 couldn't carry an Upkeep mine anyway.

Given that fact then Hollywood would change the bombs wink then remove the brits and have the planes fly non stop from America

Luckilly, that won't happen.

In fact, the film "Memphis Belle" arose from David Putnam's idea to make a film about RAF Bomber Command. However, lack of available aircraft and US funding meant a swithch to a film about the USAAF 8th Air Force. It wasn't a bad film actually as most of the incidents shown really did happen in WW2, although not all in one mission and not all to the Memphis Belle.
In fact, Memphis Bell's 25th and final mission over Europe was fairly incident free - as evidenced by the William Wyler documentary made about the mission in 1942.

The crew after that 25th mission...

I was surprised to find that the original Memphis Belle is still around and is being restored!
