Big fibreglass and steel airfix kit, but very nice it is too.

There is a serious flaw in the Tamiya model - which even Mr Tamiya now admits to and says is his greatest regret (he was interviewed by Brett Green on Hyperscale a few months ago). Appatently, the fuselkage cross section is too slab sided. It should have been much more "ovoid" in shape. Airfix, Hasegawa and Revell have got it right.

They probably scaled up the Hasegawa or Revell model blueprints.
No, PJ and his team have been crawling all over actual Lancs with tape-measures, notepads and 3D topographical scanners.
just had a closer read of the article. Good on David Frost for sticking with the proper name for the dog (and of course the code). I'd rather they be damned by fools for not changing it, rather than being damned by the sensible for pandering and changing it.

Surely as it's being funded with Hollywood money they should be using B17s.
Given WETA are CGI experts, I do hope it doesn't end up looking like a computer game with bewildered looking actors pretending in front of green screens.

And a B-17 couldn't carry an Upkeep mine anyway.

In fact, the film "Memphis Belle" arose from David Putnam's idea to make a film about RAF Bomber Command. However, lack of available aircraft and US funding meant a swithch to a film about the USAAF 8th Air Force. It wasn't a bad film actually as most of the incidents shown really did happen in WW2, although not all in one mission and not all to the Memphis Belle.
In fact, Memphis Bell's 25th and final mission over Europe was fairly incident free - as evidenced by the William Wyler documentary made about the mission in 1942.

I was surprised to find that the original Memphis Belle is still around and is being restored!
