Has anyone done this connection? How is it, and how are KLM as an airline? I usually fly continental but they don't get me into Houston early enough.

Any opinions appreciated.

Cheers

KLM are great for European flights - don't touch them for intercontinental!

They still use old 747s with half passengers, half cargo - and no entertainment! (shudder)

It might also be a NW Airlines code share, they are apparently improving...

I am not KLMs biggest fan. Old planes, poor food/service, crappy entertainment system. Never been on Northwest but if they are similar then I would avoid it if I could.

For European short haul stuff KLM are fine as the above poster says. Still poor service though IMHO.

Like he said it may be a Northwest codeshare. They are OK nothing to write home about.

Avoid KLM like the plague, rude staff, crap food, old planes. Trust me its not going to be a great experience! I fly about 100k a year and I would rather fly with Bleriot than KLM.hurl

You get what you pay for, KLM are pretty cheap... Having said that, I'm flying with them to NY at the start of April and have flown the same route in the past without a problem.

ETA - I've just checked my booking, NW from Edinburgh - Amsterdam, NW from Amsterdam to NYC then Air France from NYC direct back to Edinburgh.

Don't expect to arrive at the same place as your luggage.

Don't expect to fly on time.

Don't expect not to get bumped.

Other than that, they are great - apart from the service, the entertainment and the food.

I've only ever flown Northwest once.

Never again, never.

Indeed,

although at the end of the day it depends how much you are paying, if it's costing you £250 on KLM or £400 on Continental, then KLM would be the choice.

If there is maybe £50 difference then I would be picky about the airline.

Surprised, they've only lost my bags twice in 10 years compared to Air France where I normally fill in the lost luggage forms before I even look to see if they arrived or Northwest whose flight left early (before my connection arrived) as they were so overbooked they didn't know what to do. They then couldn't get me on another flight for four days until IcelandAir stepped in and put me on 1st Class because they had heard how cr@p NW had been.

The KLM planes to the ME are all quite new, haven't been to the states with them for a while though.

You will have a North West from Amsterdam.

Did this route last year and the NW aircraft are all new. They used to be dreadful but mine was new, seat back TV etc and good service. I would use them again, no where near as bad as Continental, Delta or AA.
