Russian Naval stuff
Discussion
After reading about the XH558 landing at Bruntingthorpe yesterday, led me to think about the Cold War, Russia and the Soviet Union.
Bit of idle stuffing following links lead me find information about a submarine base located in Balaklava, Ukraine on the Black Sea, built inside a hill. Better than James Bond style.
And also from that I found videos about the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. Gotta love a youtube video.

Good footage with some comparisions to a film popular on here.

I love Soviet Military history and the technology produced by the Soviets during the Cold War.
The Russians are very good at making strong, solid and above all reliable machines that will last a long time.
They have a 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality. It is one of the reasons that they still produce the same Volgas, Ladas and KAMAZs etc. that were designed thirty years ago. They know these vehicles are capable of withstanding the harsh terrain and temperatures and can be fixed by a local mechanic using basic tools.
I wonder what the world would be like today had the Soviet Union not collapsed in the early 90's? Would it be like modern day China and essentially be a market economy but with strict government control?
