Excellent. It may be a bit nerdy but I love seeing these deep space images. I think it's kind of mind blowing to even scratch the surface of what's "up there". Some of them are incredible, almost beautiful.
Must buy myself a telescope.

Pah, that's nothing. Do a search for VV Cephei. It's larger than the orbit of Jupiter and makes earth look like an insignificant speck.

Numpty question....

The images of far off galaxies, such as the first ones in the thread... do they actually look like that? If you were out in space, is that what you'd see? Or are they enhanced to make them look sexy to earthlings?

I suppose they might look less dense/bright as if you were there you'd looking at everything in a wider angle... i.e. mega powerful telescope is a super narrow lens so would distort things/make things look flatter.

The colours are enhanced/artificial.

That Moon's a bit...well..rough round the edges isn't it. Must be all the bacteria eating the cheese.

Can't we send up a big file & smooth it out a bit???

(Nice photo actually.)
