First off, apologies for the old news, but it's new news to me! A PH search also brought back no results so in risk of a repost here goes:

Daily Mail said:
A Russian nuclear stealth bomber was able to fly within 90 seconds of the British coast without being picked up by radar, it was revealed today.

The supersonic ‘Blackjack’ jet flew completely undetected to within just 20 miles from Hull in one of the worst breaches of British security since the end of the Cold War.

RAF radar eventually picked up the plane, but the only two pairs of fighter jets used for air alerts were on other duties.

The embarrassing breach late last year has called into question Britain's defence capabilities after four jet squadrons were cut from the RAF’s budget four years ago.
I found this rather worrying!

That's not news, that's the daily wail. If we're not allowed to believe them about muslims or asylum seekers, why should they be any more trustworthy when it comes to Russians?

If they were going to nuke Hull then I don't really see the problem.

It's only fair. We've been sailing nuclear attack subs practically into the Russian navy's dry-docks for years....the only difference being the news didn't make it into the Russian Daily Mail....

Whats more worrying is that the Navy have parked up two more vessels bringing the total number of large ships below 25.

Any tinpot country could probably invade us now and we would be helpless, although the Government have "assessed" that this is unlikely to happen rolleyes

I have assessed they're a bunch of s and I think this goes back a lot further than the current crop, what I really want to know (however I fear I already know) is where does our money go...

Why are we worth invading? why not just walk through the tunnel and get paid to live here.

I guess the government are too busy giving our defence budget to Jeremy Kyle's audience and immigrants.

yes

Anyways, nothing to worry about this cat and mouse has been happening for years. I was in the Royal Navy and we had fun and games with a russian sub while on deployment in the west Indies for a few hours. Weapons made ready etc etc. It is just the press don't know or don't report it because it really is an almost daily occurance.

Am I missing something here?

It's a 'stealth' aircraft, so surely the only surprise is that it *was* detected?

Probably checking out our North Sea gas reserves so Mr Putin can assess the best time to 'accidentally' close a few pipeline valves.

Or maybe they really do want to nuke Hull wink.

It may have been 'stealthy' 20 years ago, when it was introduced, but it's got the cross-section of a Transit Van.

International airspace. If they'd been in international waters (albeit 20 miles from Hull), and survived, then there would have been the mother of all no-black-tea-no-dry-biscuits-oversized-hat-to-be-worn interviews when the poor sods were eventually repatriated.

hehe Good point, i think my head made the assumption that they were the same thing and didnt think to consider that planes fly in the air not underwater!

Still, if they werent in our airspace then again, not a security breach as such?
