Hi All,
Hope you can offer me some advice:

I'm looking for a small sports boat for use with the family

general messing about, towing kids on an inflatable, skiing, swimming and general hooning.

Quite like the look of the Seadoo jetboats, look easy to launch and up to the job for a couple of hours use over the weekend/holidays when the weather's OK.

will be used in the sea around North Wales.

Can anyone enlighten me on the pros and cons?

thanks in advance,
sw

budget is 20kish
so new/nearly ncw
as with cars max horsepower is always appealing but is it really necessary for a novice?

having done more research the challenger series looks like it fits the bill.

thanks,
sw

Challenger is a much better boat than the speedster which tends to slam quite a lot in the slightest of chop.

With a 20k budget you are well into the 4tec engine market! much better than the old 2 stroke rotax engines. You should be able to find a nice quality twin 215 engined boat at that budget. Check and double check its history, get it plugged up at a Seadoo Dealers
Check:

was it run in correctly (10hrs on the learner/half power key),

has it had its 10hr service (where, when and at what hours)

Subsequent service?

Any warranty left (uk spec craft come with a full 2 year parts and labour warranty - an import only has 1 year parts only and you will have to get the parts shipped yourself)

Supercharger clutch washers been changed? (the ceramic washers have been known to fail and its costly!! covered by warranty (under 2 years old) part of the warranty terms is that they must be changed (at your cost) at 100hrsotherwise no claim, depending on which dealer does them it costs £250 - £400 (per engine)

Thanks for the reply.
As a complete novice would probably feel a bit better buying from a dealer.
any recommendations?

thanks again,
sw

What area would you be looking to purchase?
Would you travel?

I know a seadoo deler down south very well, I can ask him who he would suggest in your area(s)
Southhampton boatshow has just been on - The Seadoo/BRP stand was staffed by the independant dealers and some good deals were offered.

Also Check out boats and outboards .com or .co.uk

Live nr Manchester - boat to be kept north wales

On the basis that boat dealers are probably like car dealers would definitely travel to find a good one.

10 hours on the learner key is def not how you want to run these engines in.

You need to use the full power key varying the power band with short burst of WOT runs to seat the rings properly.
