Ideal for jetting to the shops... and a decent flight time too! Would be interesting to know what restrictions there would be for private use...

If. IF these ever get to the production stage the UK will be one of the last places to approve them rolleyes and even then anyone wanting to use one will require a PPL at the minimum. That's after all the years of wrangling over whether they are a rotary, fixed wing, micro-light blah, blah, blah.

I wouldn't go buying shares.

Interesting and would certainly make my journey to work quicker.

Although at $100,000 and it doesnt show much more than hovering. I'm not convinced about its capabilities WRT flying at altitude under control. I guess I'll wait and see scratchchin

So far as I know, aircraft aren't allowed to fly within 200ft of public areas, which kinda scuppers going to the shops.

It's a bit more complicated than that.

Two hundred feet doesn't figure in any Air Law I ever read to be honest. There's lots of others though.

Maybe a good 'recreational vehicle' - could see it as an addition to having a Jetski maybe. Still, early stages - the technology will improve and get cheaper - Aquada's have dropped a huge amount (started at £150k, now for sale with £100k discount.)

Hang gliders, motor hang gliders (which dont take off or land on wheels), parasailers and moto parasailers dont have licences though... so I'm not sure this would?.

As this machine uses pure thrust only, with no aerodynamic wing effect to keep it off the ground, I dont think its an aeroplane in the literal sense of the word to that end I agree with the comment of not flying it higher than you are prepeared to fall an engine failure higher than about 10ft could see you killed or seriously injured.

In any case the title of this thread is wrong, there is no jet element to this flying machine - its ducted fan (at best)- I dare say it would be safer using gas turbines (jet) as there are less moving parts to break in flight.

If one did make it to the uk and someone flew it illegally they'd have to send the copper chopper after it to "talk" it down
hehe

They’re only called jetpacks because of the failed promises of the sixties comics. We’re still waiting and always will be.

I think it's crap.

I'm very dissappointed - I had rocket man visions, and all we got was a guy with two dustbins on his shoulders hovering two foot off the ground, with two other guys holding him......

Working jetpacks have been around for years, plenty can be seen on youtube. Must seriously shorten your life expectency though!

<pedant mode> For every action there is an equal and opposite wossname. Thrust goes out the back, aerodynamic lift is created in the opposite direction so there is an element of AWE.

Its not a jet pack anyway, you can hear the engine idling and throttling up, its piston powered not jet powered.

Yes, but the point is that it IS a just a pair of glorified over powered hair dryers in pods - it's simple, non-explosive, turbine powered etc.

This is the sort of item that will likely be affordable for many in a few years time - as it's relatively simple. Like the Jet Ski once only for Double-O agents, it could become a great sport. Imagine using one to skim up the side of a steep hill a couple of feet off the ground, or chasing Jet Skis across water...
