when petrol hits £2 a litre? I know boating isnt the cheapest form of fun in the world but even something like a 18' bayliner V6 is going to be bad. What about the people with with twin V8's?!

Do people think the bottom will fall out of the market? Or will people hang onto their boats and just not go as fast or far.

  • suggestions to buy a sailing boat aside hehe

I had twin V8's in a Fairline Targa back in 2001. At that time, a £250 fill up just about got me to Cherbourg with sufficient safety margin.

could always move your boat to Iran, or Indonesia where the petrol is nice and cheap!!!

Not sure about the cruising potentials of Iran but Indonesia has some fantastic places to visit ..... and 30 pence per litre petrol and diesel (or thereabouts)

Thailand could be a genuine option too ....

This is what winds me up - Petrol is not expensive, its just the cash cow of the british government.
I hate the idiot who thinks he's going us a favour by cutting the 2p rise in a litre that was due because most of the 1.40 a litre i pay upto, is tax anyway.

How about scrapping 50p off the tax !!

Sorry I didnt mean to get political

I will personally keep the boat out of defiance and just spend more days anchored off the beach rather than blasting round for the sake of it. I have a 5.7V8

Have just come back from a one week trip on a friend's boat (Technema 68) in the Adriatic (Croatia) - a few years back, Diesel was 29 € ct and is now at 1,43 €.
Holiday could have done without a fuel bill of two and a half grand (€). If it goes on like this, I reckon many owners will opt for sailing ships/ trawlers and the likes, as my friend is likely to do.

My boat (36" Colombo) isn't easy on fuel but being on a lake I only put an average of about 2hrs/ day on the engines so increases in fuel prices won't put me off for the time being.
