Honeymoon.... something different?
Discussion
Hi chaps
Having searched through many websites, wondering what to do from my honeymoon later this year, I came across the options of chartering a boat. That of course led me to post on PH and quiz the minds here! We're looking to travel late November, so the Southern Hemisphere is ideal. Moreso Bahamas, Seychelles, Maldives etc.
What are the specifics to chartering a boat?
Anything to be wary of?
It would be only be for us ideally, so how much would a 2 berth/1 cabin be roughly? (i think powered boat would be more suitable)
Having looked into some bits, I noticed you can hire the boat 'bare' - are special licences required to 'drive' a powerboat?
Sorry if i sound a little dumb, but this is me dipping my toe so to speak in the water and am trying to soak up as much information as possible.
Feel free to add what information you think would prove useful!
Thanks!

You need a minimum of an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) for a powerboat over 10m.

Correct , lived in the BVI for 4 years ,though I lived down island for a good while and the Grenadines are also stunning. Beautiful and not too challenging for the land lubber.

I just got back form Turkey yesterday sorting a refit and it was warmer back hear in blighty !.
Think about a crewed boat option as well its the best way , and does not have to cost that much more .Much much easier and relaxing , you will go the the best places and have the best food . We try and match the guest with the right crew then send a preference sheet out to you with your likes dislikes and food and drink wishes . Crew are discrete and you may see very little of them.
If you need some help talk to me as my wife and myself run www.toplineyachtcharters.com , you can call anytime you like or e-mail.
Cheers Andy

Fantastic cruising grounds, stunning scenery and could be very nicely mixed with some spa resourte for future SWMBO too
I would recommend the British Virgin Islands also; it is simply stunning for diving - near Necker Island being one of the best spots. In November you also have a ProAm race on Trafalgar Day and don’t miss the full moon party http://www.anniebees.com/BVI/BVIPage2.htm
If you need a skipper, we can recommend Earl
We went in November just after a hurricane and the place was loaded with mosquitoes, so don’t forget your DEET!

I'm in the BVI at the moment and it could be great out of season (which November is). I've not been here at that time, but lived in the Cayman Islands for 2 years. I remember November as being quiet but also quite wet and windy. Maybe someone who's lived here can give their opinion.
My boat is available for charter through www.bcryachts.com (SY Holo Kai) Speak to Louise and tell her Gavin sent you. BCR are part of the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association so they have access to a huge number of crewed boats from approx 50ft up to 400ft anywhere in the world. You'll pay a charter fee for the boat; 50 % in advance, 50% a few days before arrival. Also required is an advance provisioning fee so that the boat can be stocked with all your favourite food and wine. Good crew will probably more than earn a 10% tip.
Concerto is a BCR boat that seems to specialise in Honeymoon couples: The crew are right up forward leaving the couple to get down to it in the massive aft cabin.
Can provide more info if required
