New to boats be gentle. Well not entirely new used to row a few years back. But I've toyed with the idea of buying something small and fast for fun preferably with as many seats as possible for friends, or is the best thing to buy a jetski, or is that a dirty word in the boating world??

Dirty word, burn in hell. wink

It's as socially outcasting as buying a 50cc scooter with a 'racing' exhaust on it don't do it!

Get a proper boat! Or even better one with canvas!

Me and a mate had a budget of £20k for a boat. We spent 13k on an 8 yr old chaparral that seats 9, goes like stink, handles like a dream and has a wakeboard tower etc as well as being great and safe for the kids.

With the change we bought a 155BHP jetski, yes we know we are the scourge of the ocean going world but there isn't a buzz like it!

Launch them both and all the fun of the fair is yours.

Off to burn in hell now, with a grin on my face! biggrin

Hi Pat
First do you have family and do you want to use it regularly , if so especially after summer like ours get something with a Bimini and side an rear screen . Fletchers are good and cheap they do 19 , 21 , 25 with a small cuddy cabin .High free board and self draining again a big bonus if you intend to leave it on a mooring , which again means you tend to get more use as on an off trailer launching etc can be a right old faff.
I have got a guy coming to pick up a nice SeaRay 215 express cruiser this week , very tidy £17.
Let me know if you want something Pat as i am in North Wales and there are more speed boats in the Abersoch area hear than in many places , which is close to the Holyhead Ferry .
Something like this is good http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/DBO047
This is my mates if you want a ski / wakeboard style boat, probably open to offers as well http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/DBO047

Hope this helps

Don't tar all us Jetskiers with the same brush, we have been boating for 30 yrs, are VERY responsible and don;t hoon around near the shore or other craft.

We had a beautiful day out on the water at St Tuds on Saturday! Warmest of the year!

Glad you had a good day , yes and the weather has been good , as you say like many things in life you only need a few bad eggs to things look bad .
Jet ski do tend attract a fair few of those , and more often it is the lack of training or knowledge .

Nail and head, anyone can buy a Jetski, or indeed any kind of boat, launch it and go. It's all well and good being reg'd with the council but no test or proof of ability is required. We sometimes don't even launch on the busy weekends as there are so many lunatics about.

Wait till they all come off the water for their Pimms and prawn butties and the sun is going down, that's the time!

Nice if you like that sort of thing but I'm afraid this is a petrolhead site and thus FUEL wins or we would all be driving wind buggy thingys...

When fuel runs out I will of course swap camp Great boat etc etc and I'll be out of a job.

mateus, I know what you mean with the powerboat thing as i do both. Tell you what though there is nothing more seat of the pants , scary , exciting than sailing a offshore racing yacht in the middle of the night surfing down huge Atlantic rollers in a big blow , with 12 /14 guys in front of you with there life in your hands . Remember Ellen MacArthur on Top Gear how good she was and she said its like driving a rally car with no headlights with no back up .
Its about the best way to describe it ,try it sometime it more scary than chine walking 90mph , you have no throttle

Fair play, well described. Most dangerous thing I have done is racing off gibralter in a big swell and having boats break in half in front of us and other boats props wizzing past my head less than 5' away from my lid!! Why do we do it !! BECAUSE WE CAN.. it's all good. Ellen was fantastic wasn't she. PS sounds like fun when do we leave....
