as title suggests!
My Father & myself are into our 1st year of ownership on our boat (humphries target 30)
& were going to be undertaking some light rennovation work over the comming months so my question is....

Where are the best places to get maintanence done (mechanical & sail repairs)

Im pretty handy with a set of spanners but theres always something that goes wrong which is way above my league.
Also parts seem to be very expensive for what they are (£6.00 for a u shaped bracket with 2 nuts on the end!!!eek- maybe im just being tight)
Can anyone suggest any good value places to shop in?

Welcome to the world of boat ownership.

I've only got a dinghy and everytime we break something on that it costs a fortune to repair.
I'll have a think about places around the area as we used to do a lot of training and racing in Plymouth Sound and often had to buy bits/fix the boat there!

I'll ask me old man, he's worked in Plymouth area for 30 odd years in the boat trade (he's a surveyor) so knows pretty much everyone in the trade there on the repair side.

Just got off the phone to the old man & apparently Westaways in Ivybridge are by far the best for all things sail related. There are a few in Plymouth but he reckons that they are well worth the drive up the A38.

What sort of maintenance work are you after? - there are lots of good (and not so good) people for different things. If you chuck a list on here, I can get some names for you, alternatively if you want to send me a message through my profile with the info, I'll get some names.

Thanks alot, your dad may have done the survey for us a couple of months ago.
We have just had a whole host of things serviced on it...I just wanted to know of a decent mechanic/know it all that is not going to rip us off etc, etc as were new to boat ownership.
I have heardsome bad press about the chap at Westaways, I cant comment myself as we used Ullman's in Plymouth this time around.

We are in need of updating our gps system soon as it dos not pick up a very good signal from the ariel (ariel lead is in bad nick) & the screen is cracked, so could do with some good advice on that?
