Speed limit on Windermere for Boat Piston Heads
Discussion
There is currently a petition on the 10 Downing St website to get the speed limit on Windermere squashed. An appeal is going in against the decision in March not to squash it. Please sign this for the good of all those who like speed on water and the fun that goes with it.

I've been on Windermere many times and never exceeded that sort of speed. Wash from fast moving boats erodes the banks. Go out to sea if you want to go fast.
Bit of a no brainer.....ever been to the lake on a stormy day and seen the waves caused by wind hitting the shore? now that is erosion over a lengthy period of time (thousands of years)! So whats next, a ban on winds over 10mph? Lets just call it Ermere instead of Windermere.
I have had various sail boats moored on the lake for over 20yrs and never had a problem with owners of powerboats, waterskiers or the big cruisers, noise from PWC's was a bit of a pain at times but certainly wasn't a major issue.
I am sure the situation could be easily resolved with a little thought about only using certain areas of the lake for high speed.
I dont think wash from boats is going to make any diference in the scheme of things. Wind, rain, tourists, amimals etc will do more damage. (I have studied bank erosion in the field as part of my degree) They can reinforce the banks with all the money they charge to use the lake. As its not a flowing river so can be done fairly cheaply.
Not that i think its a problem anyway, just people trying to stop us having fun.
We used to take the boat there and thrash it around - was awsome
