One of the last times I remember travelling in a DMU was the final ever rail journey from Market Harborough to Northampton on 15 August 1981 before closure. My dad was one of the co-founders of the preservation group, which arranged the charter. I also remember going to their first public meeting at Nene College, Kingsthorpe. It was rammed. They eventually re-opened a short section in 1996. He’ll be back at the railway next month for its 30th anniversary event. They still only have about 2 miles of track after all that time!
