I was at the Beechhill hotel at Lake Windermere with the Mrs for her birthday, we had just arrived, on the terrace having a beer, I hear a loud noise I look up and it's an effing A400M zooming past LOW over the lake, lowest I have seen a plane that isn't landing or taking off, I was so excited and half expected it to be a regular occurance as I thought there would be a military base nearby but nothing?? It also wasn't on flightradar.

It was the last time I saw a plane at all unless it was at cruising altitude

Any idea as to why it was that low and where it was going to or coming from?

It was quite the experience.

I would also like to point out that I half expected it to be a lot bigger, it looks huge in videos and pictures

Came over our house yesterday (just east of Carlisle) as well, plus a couple of military choppers later on. They seem to have regular training sorties out of Carlisle airport, taking in Spadeadam.

Windermere is in the Low Level Flying Training area, I think they are allowed to fly down to 100ft there

We were there at the weekend.

Yes, very low, and an amzing sight.

No idea what plane it was.

Saw a fighter jet also, but wasn't quick enough with the camera, but wasn't an F35

We have them occasionally over the house at 250 feet. Awesome sight and sound.

Lots of sorties down the Eden Valley as well, fun when you're on a Teams meeting with the window open!
