Restoring this B-17E is still not near as a challenging restoration as is the MAAM P-61 Black Widow, which is now approaching 45 years duration, although it took the first 10 years or so with negotiations with New Guinea to be able to recover it from its 1945 crash site on top of a mountain, and then actually recovering it from that remote site. So, its only been about 35 years in its actual physical restoration.
Again, scary to remember reading the articles in magazines from 35-45 years ago and following the process in mags from 1990 onwards and into the easier task of following via the internet, but I was just starting work when they first formed to recover it, and I'm now not far off retirement and its still a fair few years away from flying...

Yeah, but Air Pictorial and Aviation News (which I was a subscriber of in the 70's) and other stuff from those days wasn't pure vintage stuff, which is why Flypast was a breath of fresh air when it came out in 1980 (or was it 81?) if your interest was only old stuff.
