Very suspicious circumstances, just after planning permission granted on condition of rebuilding listed hanger.

Well know Area A (blue area) that was not permitted can be moved and built onto the fire damaged area now.

Yes - every suspicious.

It seems the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection was not harmed in any way - which is a relief.

Not the first serious hangar fire at Old Sarum either. The hangar being used by Edgley to build their innovative Optica aircraft went up in flames back in 1986. That was suspicious too.

Looks very convenient timing, amazing how often spontaneous combustion does that.

'given the green light for a development just one week prior'.

Perhaps the culprit thought that burning it to the ground was cheaper than paying for a demolition team.

Rather silly because if the area was about to be redeveloped anyway, he/they could be facing arson charges. Hopefully CCTV will help solve it.

If your hangar is made of fire crackers, rolled up newspapers and matchsticks wouldn't a fire suppression system be a good idea?

Conditions of the planning permission were that they restore the hangar.

I did all my initial flying there with the ATC. Good thermals over the castle. Lovely place. Shame it’s being built upon.

I worked there making the Optica until the company went bust and before the first hanger fire.

This is where the fire is in case anyone doesn't know.

That's a good motive for arson.

Which hangar was it and how far from the museum?

Presumably the fire doesn’t change the conditions of the planning that was granted
And presumably the owners have the building insured
And so surely this is not a problem?
I know it was historic and now it’d be a reproduction, but surely that’s the outcome that’s desired here by the planners?

unless of course they have to rebuild using the correct materials and construction methods before they can continue with the development...

I feel the same about the scumbag developers who put in an estate and them either refuse to build the promised infrastructure or 'go bust'... surely the council can't be so stupid as to not insist that infrastructure is built first? So it increases the developer's costs, my heart bleeds

I agree the timing of the blaze is, erm, convenient but the time the blaze started is odd too. 6.30 on a Summer evening is a dodgy time to be setting a fire with people still about and the chance of being spotted acting suspiciously quite high.

Strange one.
