Into fourth day of disruption perhaps it’s time now for the installation of a FIDO system…….

It has been bad all over Europe for the last four days, today has really brightened up. There was a flight from Zurich the other day (E290), which made an attempt landing at London City, then stayed in a holding pattern over North Kent for half an hour, before flying back to Zurich.

I can't see that going down too well with the ecomentalists. Or H&S for that matter (what they do when there's a war on?)

Blackbushe still has the pipes in place. They might be a little rusty now, of course.

As you’ve gathered just an attempt at humour as I was wondering just how many on here knew what FIDO was…saved my father’s life on returning from a raid …

Blackbushe is just north of Farnborough, west of Blackwater on the A30. If you reach the A327 roundabout you've gone to far and need to turn around.

Absolutely, I'm a great fan of humour in the face of adversity!

And it would clear fog just as well as it did in WW2. Actually a friend of mine works at NATS, I'll tell him to get weaving nuts

Well, I Googled it.
A system for removing fog from the airport area. Basically, a big fire around the runway using low grade fuel.

The A30 runs in a dead straight line alongside the airfield. It's a busy general aviation and small executive aircraft base these days.

And a very good cafe which does a nice breakfast whilst you sit in old aircraft seats.
