747 Experience Manchester
Discussion
I have the option of going for a Birthday Present to the above. Has anyone here done it?
Reviews are good but a bit light on how good the simulator is. Is it aimed for kids and not wannabe pilots like me?
It appears to be a static SIM as opposed to one on hydraulics, but could still be good.

I co-run a flight simulator experience centre, but not one in Manchester or anywhere near it.
Most 7n7 experiences are full functioning cockpits with the visuals handled by either projectors or independent screens, but providing a solid experience. You don't need motion to experience 'motion' and you might not want the motion even if you had it.
I'd say go ahead and book it, high chance you'll enjoy it.

Having flown a number of simulators over the years, the 744 Experience at Tattenhall Cheshire is definitely the best.

Ah, there seems to be two options:

https://www.thedeck747.com/
The 744 SIM looks really good from that video.
Any other recommendations?

I started a thread about it here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
There's a Captain Joe review video linked. (as above)
If it must be a 747 that's pretty much your only option. If you are happy to fly a different aircraft there are other fixed base sim options available, it depends on your budget and how far you want to travel.

There's a full motion a320 sim in Salford that I've heard good things about from airbus pilots.

There's also a place in deeside that has both a320 and 737, I believe the a320 is approved for use in training airline pilots in multi crew ops so it must be realistic.

If you're after the most realism, I'd be asking what backgrounds the instructors have. Imo you'd be better off in a less realistic sim with a current/retired airbus pilot instructing on their day off than in a super realistic sim with someone who's not. Ive seen a lot of these simulators experience places crop up over the past few years that just use PPL pilots with no real world experience.
