Train crash in Wales
Discussion
It's also near to a section of road that has collapsed, and will soon need to be shut for weeks to repair. It's a difficult section of road and rail there, and very awkward with the single track with passing place.
It's very sad - generally it's a safe line with modern signalling but don't think that played a part here. Reports say passenger rather than driver.

One comment I read elsewhere suggests that the cab signalling system being tested on that line may well have stopped the other train once the first one ran through Talerddig loop. If this is true then it probably dramatically reduced the potential speed of collision and may well have significantly reduced the number of injuries. It's very sad - generally it's a safe line with modern signalling but don't think that played a part here. Isn’t the Cambrian line the test line of the ETCS signalling system in the U.K.?Edited by alangla on Tuesday 22 October 16:54
