Hi

Anyone got a good site for checking sea conditions - particularly swell/chop?

Barely used my boat this year and didn't go last weekend because the forecasts looked pretty choppy, but when i saw pictures that others had but up it really didn't look too bad.

Cheers

I'd recommend the 'windy' app. Gives all sorts of useful data and has different forecast models as well to compare.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look.

Never more than 4 or 5 miles out, tend to hug the shoreline.

Rough sea makes it miserable regardless of the other weather conditions.

Depending on where you are surfline may have a report and live camera of the area.

I feel your pain. The last few years have been terrible for wind and has meant I've barely been able to get out.

For weather alone I find XCWeather.co.uk to be excellent for forecast, and Windy.com almost as good but with much more information available.

For sea state give Buoyweather.com a try.

There are a few sites which provide real-time wave height.
ChiMet I think?
Maybe you can find a local one?

Depending on where you are, the waves can vary a lot according to wind and tide.
Wind against tide is often rough. 4 houts later, it's smooth again.

Swell tends to take time to build up and go away, so weather for the last dy or two can tell you what to expect.

But everything is very location dependent.

Sometimes we find it's better further out than in the bays and close to the headlands.
