Absolutely baffling trying to work out the costs of getting 8 people in 4 cabin yacht and a pootle about some Greek islands for a week.

Maybe its too much for a non yachtie to understand and arrange? The fuel cost at 360 litres per hour seems gigantic and they use white Diesel in EU not untaxed red as UK (is this like THE one Brexit benefit???biggrin). Is it really about a grand to motor a yacht for 2 hours? [I pay £5 for 200 miles in my EV laugh!]

Does anyone have any hints and tips pls as the variations in costs and what's included is undigestible so far.

Idea was £2k per person = £16,000 to mess about on a swanky skippered yacht for a week the once. Out of my depth maybe...

Not any more, that went out with Gordon Brown. Fuel for propulsion is vatable, only for heating it's not.

Anyway, you have a nice problem to solve smile

Must be a power boat OP ?
Not Sail ?

Must be Greece ?

Don’t forget, that fuel number is flat sticks versus shuffling around. Also add food / provisions and crew tipping in the bill.

Motorboat running costs are really expensive, which is why they go out far less than sailing boats.

A mate suggested a Catamaran too thanks - I thought they may be smaller with less space but maybe not. And yes it has to be Greece.

I have found a helpful agency but I think these fuel costs kill a motor cruiser as just 3hrs on the move per day pushes 10k for the week. I need to learn about Lee Ho and such stuff! Could be fun as long as the wives don't get sea sick sipping cocktails at 45 degrees cranked over!;)

Cheers

You wont use anywhere near that much fuel unless you are going full power.

Can’t help answer the question but I was in Skopelos a few weeks back and there were plenty of big catamarans with 8 guests.

It’s a nice calm sea over there which makes a catamaran a good comfortable option too.

No need to unless you want to, they motor well enough that you could not sail at all. A yacht large enough to sleep 8 comfortably will motor at ~8 knots burning less than 15 litres per hour.

Nisos are unlikely to be the OP's preference.
(as much as I like the service / boats personally)

May I suggest something like these guys, but in Greece. https://www.adriatic-sailing.hr/luxury-crewed-yach...

I'll trawl through my bookmarks.

Thanks for the tips guys - making progress.

Looking like £1500 each for a week which is within the realms of mere mortals on a Cat!

I chartered a 12guest boat from Rhodes for 2 days by just walking up to the boats I liked the look of, and chatting to the skipper. Was very reasonable, and agreed a rate for the crew so no expectations of a tip to cover their wages. Meals weren't provided as we didnt go for the chef, so stopped off at restaraunts, taverns and cafes etc for lunch and dinner, which was great.

That sounds ideal. Currently getting cold feet on a 50% foreign bank wire transfer 10 months before the booking. I don't see me able to do that as it feels too risky. Maybe I can find an UK agent with ABTA protection or something and pay in UK. Minefield continues.

As above - give Helm a shout: https://www.helm.yt/

Better yet, a day trip to the Southampton Boat show and chat to them there for comfort factor.

I'd be looking at a Lagoon - lots of space and no crazy fuel prices. As for the boat show - good shout and Lagoon are always there. September is just round the corner now.

That's was useful - can pay Helm by credit card if I book a skipper so will get some protection. So many agencies want transfer to foreign banks... Some agencies don't even have addresses like Click Boat!

The remaining bit I don't like is I take a £5k excess hit if the qualified hired skipper damages the boat. Hmmm!

Getting there though - thanks.
