Spotted in Hurgada Marina yesterday, it looked old and a bit battered but with 4 big engines strapped on the back.

Not sure, Chris Craft or similar.
But that's a shame to see outboards what would be replacing most likely a pair of V8s

That's what caught my attention, obviously used to be inboard powered and converted to outboards at considerable cost but the rest left to look a bit shabby. It's named Bob.

Am I right in thinking the '250' on the back of those outboards refers to their horsepower?

Yep 250hp V6. They’re about £16k an engine.

It has the shape of a Riva Aquarama, but the windscreen is not original. Quite why you would butcher a boat as valuable (now of course, perhaps now hen this was done) as a Riva escapes me but who knows. In good condition they can sell for €500,000!

That's why they are fitted, cheaper and easier to set up. A pair of Yanmar 8LV's and drivetrain would be around £90k before you start modifying the boat to fit.

That’s not the name, it’s an advertising slogan: Bugle on Board.

Looks very much like that would be it's primary use but I think you'd get your nose and hands chopped of for playing that game over here smile

Off-the-shelf V8s are even cheaper.

If it is a Riva the main stumbling block is that it's in Egypt; even if the owner isn't all "I know what I've got" and demanding the vast fortune it might be worth if it was de-butchered, exporting it from Egypt is likely to be an expensive and bureaucratic nightmare, especially if they decide it's historic.

I suspect it's not that old, and that it's never seen any inboard engines. Yes, it's clearly inspired by classic Italian runabouts, but it lacks any of the finesse of one. I used to travel to a country at the far end of the Med quite a bit, and there was a local fascination with building boats that were obviously inspired by brands such as Sunseeker, Princess, Ferretti, etc.. but on closer inspection they were made out sheets of ply, to create a sort 'Fisher Price' offering.

This whiffs of something similar.

That would explain why the cockpit looks more like something with Rinker on the side than Riva.
