Does anyone on here own one?

I always go on them on holiday and 3 weeks ago my mate pressured me into buying one as he has nobody to go out with on his £14500 Yamaha Supercharged monster.

I opted for a cheaper entry level ski - 1998 Yamaha GP1200 2 stroke with only 31hours on it.

Took them out in the Cromarty firth for the first outing - around the oil rigs and cruise ships was very cool.

We then did Loch Ness from Dores to Urquhart Castle.

I then decided I would upgrade after 2 weeks and it has all gone wrong.

I bought a Yamaha XLT1200 much bigger and better for carrying people (wife and my daughters0

It had just had an engine rebuild so needed run in, well it ran lovely on a hose in my drive but when we got it in the water the starter solenoid failed.

I bought a new one, had it in at North Kessock, under the Kessock Bridge, having a lovely spin about then 10mins in the engine seized........the 2 stroke injector looks to of failed and it's killed the engine. The pistons have hell of a movement in them, along with a few bore marks.

I have stripped it down and hoping to replace

3 pistons at £85 each
Head gasket £54
Hone the bores as they are nickel plated and have very little damage by the looks of it
2 stroke oil tank delete and run it on premix

Just need to hope the crank is OK if not it's £900

I am gutted, i think the issue was known before I bought it but it's just one of these things. Hopefully have it back in the water by next weekend as I am now a "jet ski guy" absolutely love it.

What I don't love is swimming behind it pushing it back to shore as we forgot our tow rope.

Some people recommend adding oil to the fuel as well as the oil reservoir 'just in case'

I've a year 2000 seadoo 2 stroke, 720cc so about 1.4L 4 stroke equivalent and they're great fun. No problem towing and kids love the tube.

It's just one of those things. Not getting a water test was a big mistake but you know that already now so all you can do really is get it fixed up and hope it gives you a trouble free season.

Yep, I’ve got the engine fully stripped.

Crank is like new, which is great news.

Barrels are being honed so will have them back Monday then it’s a top end rebuilt.

I’ve bought the 2 stroke delete kit so going to run it in premix.

Just annoyed at myself but hopefully will have it back in the water on a fresh build for £500, should do me a good season and some.

We’ve just bought a ring for it aswell.

You don't have to marry it.

Money and time well spent tbh. Kind of a shame that the 1st one ran ok and you chopped it but having the bigger ski is probably better in the long run. You've got your tube so plenty of room for you and a spotter and still room for 3 if the tuber wants pulled out and taken to shore so the change of ski does make sense.

Not “brought” that phrase upsets me.

I feel committed to it and marrying is the only option as my wife may divorce me over Jet Ski escapades haha.

Yep it’s annoying as he was out yesterday towing a ring on my old ski haha.

Last night I did the 2 stroke delete, emptied the tank and bought the plug for it, the ski now has a full tank of pre mix.

It will be worth it when it’s back in the water looking and sounding fresh.
