Hopefully they reach funding as it would be a shame to see such a unique plane be broken up for scrap.

Was this previously bought by a guy that was going to strip it out and turn it into "glamping" accommodation at a little airfield somewhere? Guess that never happened then.

If anybody hasn’t been to the Solway Aviation Museum, I would urge them to go - lots of stuff there in a compact site and a fascinating hangar of planes being worked on/restored.

They do a great job with minimal funds, and it’s easy to get to, only 6 miles from M6 at Carlisle north. Volunteering there is part of my retirement plan.

I just had a look at their collection of aircraft, exactly the era I'm most interested in so a visit will be planned.

Second that, it's a really friendly little museum with some great stuff, and you can go in several of the aircraft.

I volunteer at the museum and do the Vulcan cockpit tours. We are a very friendly and enthusiastic team with lots of knowledge and stories to tell. We encourage visitors to get close up to the planes on display and climb in where possible. If you visit I am sure you will enjoy your time with us.

Thanks Hammo - I’m actually only 4 miles away, and once kids/work/house restoration gets out of the way I will definitely be volunteering. The Vulcan tour is great, it’s like sitting in a Lancaster cockpit surrounded by something from outer space! My dad and I saw it fly in when it arrived.

That’s brilliant to hear Hammo. Perhaps a polite email to the mods might get a small article on the front page for those who don’t read this subforum? Massive readership so it would only take a small percentage to stick in a fiver. It can’t hurt! N&S (for once in their lives) do seem bought into it with regular updates.

That’s brilliant, I saw an article in the N&S about it. I look forward to seeing it.
