There seem to be a number of personal drones on the market now. They aren’t proper flying cars we were promised years ago, as their use is quite restricted. They are more like toys (jet skis/snowmobiles/dirt bikes that can be used for fun. However it seems that you don’t need a pilots licence and that are easy to learn to fly. I assume that they are great fun to fly. So has anyone got one or plan to buy one in 2024?

Got an example of the type of thing you're referring to?

Generally for a powered aircraft to not need a licence in the UK, it needs to weigh less than 70kg including fuel and be supported by a non-rotating wing and be able to fly at less than 20 knots in landing configuration. This tends to restrict it to paramotors, powered hang gliders, whether foot launched or on a trike, plus a few very light fixed-wing aircraft.

Sub-70kg aircraft
