Wagner Air Accident IL-76

Any learned individuals care to comment on the total disaster of a landing. To me it looks like he came in too late, but should still have been able to stop on the grass. It seems like bottled it, tried to abort, and stalled.
Am I doing this right?

Without seeing the approach its pure guess work.
But looks like landed long and fast.
Doesn't appear to have a lot of flap selected.
Looking at the touchdown point on the video, and looking across from that point to some reference points with other stuff off the side of the runway, and looking on Google Earth, a/c appears to have touched down more than half way down the runway, which is only 2500m..........how on earth a go-around wasn't initiated even before touching the wheels down is astonishing......unless, they already had a technical issue that meant they had a one shot only attempt at this, and got it wrong in a spectacular fashion.....!!But looks like landed long and fast.

Also, it seems Il-76 was an ex-Wagner aircraft, and had been 'transferred' to the Mali Airforce the week before <cough>

He was too long, too fast, didnt appear to use thrust reverse either, strange.

Tailwind? But even so something isn't adding up.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T34HJJ0uYq0

For comparison, here is an Ilyushin Il-76 landing at Farnborough.

Note:
- Increased angle of attack before touchdown
- Deployment of spoilers from top surface of wing
- Use of reverse thrust to assist braking

Are we allowed to post videos of plane crashes now?
Somebody had a right paddy when a B17 and P63 crashed in Dallas and got the mods to pull all links.
A little consistency would be nice...
I was accused of that though all I did was ask the same question that you have about posting crash videos.Somebody had a right paddy when a B17 and P63 crashed in Dallas and got the mods to pull all links.

There do seem to be double standards on providing links to crash videos, and not just on Pistonheads. The determining factor seems to be whether any native English speakers were harmed. Somebody had a right paddy when a B17 and P63 crashed in Dallas and got the mods to pull all links.

IMHO, a link to a video which doesn't show the actual victims should be acceptable for the purposes of understanding what happened. Gratuitous blood and gore and bodies is just ghoulish and should be avoided, whether in links or otherwise.

Systems problem? Lack of hydraulic pressure to actuate flaps etc?
It all looks very wrong, so I'm guessing there is an underlying problem and not just poor flying
While the flaps don't look fully deployed, there are video's on youtube showing Il-76's landing without full flap deployment, but still with the wing top spoilers being deployed.....so maybe there was a fault. It all looks very wrong, so I'm guessing there is an underlying problem and not just poor flying
I'm still inclined to think it was a cockpit issue, given how far down the runway they touched down.
