Yeovilton Air Day

Looks like this won't be happening until at least after 2028, most likely never again.

Initially was told it was due to the planned runway work, but now it's looking like the commercial operator isn't interested either.

Bloody shame.

That's a shame but seems to be inevitable these days. Used to love Yeovilton air day, with it being a 1 day show all the good stuff was on the same day with very little filler.

Remember one year, must have been about 2011, seeing the Vulcan in formation with the Sea Vixen, the crazy Dutch Apache doing loops while firing off flares, a Polish Mig 29 doing a very loud, fast and smokey display, not to mention the big Marines role demo at the end with all the pyrotechnics going off. At one point the sky was pretty much black with smoke but the sun was quite low and illuminated the Junglie sea Kings superbly. Great times.

We stayed right to the end and after everyone had left got to see the Sea Vixen doing an impressive full bore takeoff and climb out, followed by a low flypast as it had a short hop back to Bournemouth.

2015 had the Vulcan, the Vixen and two Vampires in a V-ship flypast. That was pretty cool.



Also that year was the final appearance of the French Etendards





Happy times, and as my folks live in Somerton, certainly my "local" show, I would come back to England on that weekend to see my family and then promptly leave them for a couple of days, as I invariably did arrivals day too.
