Canal dredging
Discussion
Recently a few hundred meters dredged near one of my dog walking routes. Fascinating to watch, stuff scooped out with a bucket and arm mounted on a barge. A digger on the bank loading residue into a glopeter glopeter machine, then spread on the fields.
My question, how does the bucket operator avoid damaging the clay lining when scooping? And what does the glopeter glopeter machine actully do?

Does sound like the sort of thing you get a flask and sandwich and have a watch of. My question, how does the bucket operator avoid damaging the clay lining when scooping? And what does the glopeter glopeter machine actully do?
My son would be in his element with the diggers.
Brings back memories from my child hood in the 70's. I spent far too many hours watching Perseverance clearing the Basingstoke canal.
