Nepal Air Crash
Discussion
There are 2 other videos that have since come to light.
One is a pretty harrowing Facebook livestream of a passenger actually onboard when its going in.
The second is a wide shot from the other side of the approach, RH engine/prop catches fire, plane banks sharply left after a few seconds and, well you know the rest.
Viewer discretion advised if you choose to seek them out - particularly the first one.

That livestream is absolutely grim. Don’t watch it.
If it's the one I found, it wasn't a big deal. There's no blood, gore or injured or dead people. You see far worse in TV dramas.Lotobear said:
It is known what happened yet - engine failure or pilot error?
Lunchtime news said the pilot had just asked to land on a different runway. Which is odd at that height.TIGA84 said:

The wide angle clip is actually the crash of an Il-112 from a few years agoOne is a pretty harrowing Facebook livestream of a passenger actually onboard when its going in.

Not seen another thread on this.
From the video, it looks to me like a stall? Wrong flap setting too little power?
Sadly no survivors.
Good early analysis here (an excellent channel btw) https://youtu.be/OnuVPUsz9VEFrom the video, it looks to me like a stall? Wrong flap setting too little power?

nly difference is, you know they aren't real.
And yet we - well most people it seems, not me - eagerly lap up reality TV programmes featuring sick, injured and dying people. I find those far worse because they're deliberate. Broadcast on national TV, hooray. But post a link to a crash and it will be removed due to 'offence'. It makes no sense to me.Sorry, back to the topic.

It was inevitable with the proliferation of phones and cameras that eventually some poor sod onboard would capture their own and many others fiery demise in an air crash. One is a pretty harrowing Facebook livestream of a passenger actually onboard when its going in.
I watched it with the sound off and looks to be all over in half a second, so at least not a lot of time suffering. RIP all onboard.

Awful news. My wife is half Nepali and I recall flying into the old Pokhara airport on a twin otter years ago - it was a hairy experience as is any flying in Nepal.

It's a beautiful part of a beautiful country. It is known what happened yet - engine failure or pilot error?
When I did Kathmandu to Pokhara our flight was swapped out for a bus ride. It's a tedious journey because the road is one long processional of lorries taking an age to climb up out of Kathmandu valley.
Even then I was happier to do the bus journey though. This is just one more incident that highlights quite how dangerous flying in Nepal is
Horrible. Looks possibly like an aerodynamic stall to me - high angle of bank at a low airspeed. Reported today the CVR has been found in good condition so i guess we'll hear soon enough. Also reported that the co-pilot who died lost her husband (he was also a pilot) in another aircraft crash 16 years before, apparently she used the insurance money to fund her flight training. Very sad indeed, RIP.

Pilot feathers props instead of selecting flaps 30. No power. Stall.

The two controls next to each other and operating in the same way. An accident waiting to happen.https://youtu.be/rXTy24rdwYc
