Axopar 37 Sun Top... just picked up one
Discussion
After spending a few months trying different boats, I settled on the Axopar 37 T-Top and picked it up last week.
My requirements were:
Ease of use
Single handed berthing
Good Day boat layout
Minimal maintenance
Ability to sleep overnight (would have preferred two cabins though)
I actually wanted the Nimbus T11 for it's Twin Cabin layout but sadly it wouldn't fit in the berth that's right opposite my apartment. Whereas the Axopar 37 is a perfect fit.
Anyhow, here's the boat on the Hawkesbury River, just up from Sydney Harbour.
Done about 25 hours on it last week and been pressed into service for customer trips and the missus and her mates (big difference in usage, i'll post videos if anyone's interested in seeing boring customer meetings or Brazilian girls dancing in bikinis haha).
I want to get a removable boarding ladder on the front and a BBQ holder, so a little fabrication work required. Was going to get a hotplate retro fitted in the wet bar but it eats up too much space so I'll leave it for a bin.
Enginewise it's got the Mercruiser Verado 350 x 2. Standard are 250's.
Top speed is 48knots, but fuel consumption is woeful at those speeds.
Took it for a blast offshore as well. We have a pretty big Southerly Swell in open water here, generally around 2-3m but she handles it pretty well.
Minimal spray despite the gunnels being so low when hitting it head on.
I guess it's that stepped hull design most of these style boats have.
Not entirely sold on the 'open ended' rear design though, kinda daunting in a big following sea. Plus I lost a flip flop off the back when at speed. Give me a good transom any day...
Anyhow, awesome boat, very happy with it. I'll post some more pictures as I use it more...

Nice boat, used to see a few around Auckland. Only seen one here in Fiji and I think its the smaller model (28?) but looks like it goes pretty well with a crowd of drinkers/fishers onboard !
ETA - Just seen it again, def a 37 with twin 300hp Mercury

Really good choice and great engines too.
It sounds as though you intend to stay on it a fair bit and I always think of the Axopar as quite compromised as anything other than a day boat. What swung it for you over rival boats with larger accommodation?
Actually, I preferred the Nimbus T11 but it didn't fit in the berth I had, only by 2ft but it made another chaps berth difficult. The Axopar is definitely a day boat set up. I've not spent a night on it yet so can't comment on the interior but the space usage isn't as efficient as it could be. There's a couple of seats inside that I consider a bit silly, should have converted one into a storage area/cupboard.
That said the shower and toilet is done pretty well.
I've now racked up another 20 odd hours on it. Been taking it out singlehanded and working off it on Mondays. Laptop and mobile phone stuff. With the Christmas break it'll be pressed into service a bit.
And it's going to be an amazing platform to watch arguably one of the greatest fireworks show these days on New Years eve.
I'll post some piccies up soon but been a bit busy with my other big purchase (an SF90 spider)

New boat, new Ferrari, sunshine, fireworks etc. Living the dram life - I have envy
Okay, some updates on the boat.
In summary.. amazing!!
First up we did a two night stay on the boat up in the wilderness.
We took it offshore and up the coast to the Hawkesbury River, we were lucky outbound, minimal swell and so averaged a decent 30knots for about 45mins, then into the river system.
The Hawkesbury runs for about 50 - 60 miles of decent depth so pretty long.
Trimmed up, the Axopar ran at 40knots, or about 75% throttle (top speed was 51 knots), we went up the river for about 90 mins and got to a smaller estuary called Colo River.
Luckily it's got a 600 litre tank so that run one way used about 40% of fuel.
Anyhow, we anchored up about 2 miles up Colo River, nobody around and in the middle of the Australian forest/bush. Was a fantastic experience.
We brought a portable camping stove and BBQ which served our purpose well. I was going to get a grill fitted in the wet bar but the portable is just fine.

After spending the night on Colo, we went back onto Hawkesbury and spent the day and night here:

Was a great experience and next trip we're going to head further north, start to explore other regions up the coast.

My girlfriend brought a load of her Brazilian mates who love to dance and muck around.
Was amazing for different reasons.
