Not looking very good for survivors off the fishing boat.
I'm guessing poor visibility, although it seems Goodwill was aware immeaditely that it had hit something.

As you say, too early to speculate really.

Is it? If there were survivors they'd have been found today. I can't think of any option other than the ferry ran it over. BBC news said it has damage on the front. It would have been dark, but the ferry if not the fishing boat had radar. So the question surely is - who wasn't watching it?

Grim, I hope survivors are found. It would have been dark, but the ferry if not the fishing boat had radar. So the question surely is - who wasn't watching it?
Plenty to speculate on but we must not draw conclusions or apportion blame yet.
It is sound practice to discuss incidents, possible causes/scenarios and measures to avoid/deal with them. If nothing else it serves as a reminder of how important good watch keeping is. I know our crew will and then discuss further when the MAIB have written their report.
I’ll not post links to info I’ve seen (might be incorrect or out of date) but it’s easy to find and well worth thinking about from a hypothetical ‘what if that were me/my vessel’ perspective.
Not all fishing boats show up well on radar, although the one involved was a reasonable size.
Not all trawlers have modern or comprehensive Bridge Nav equipment.
Time-lapse tracking of the two vessels is interesting when considering ‘rules of the road’.
Ferry was doing 18kn, the trawler 8kn so unlikely to be actually fishing.
The trawler had a serious navigational incident in May ‘20
There was a previous collision involving a condor ferry & a fishing boat.

I never said too early to speculate I said too early too jump to the conclusion of poor visibility considering the visibility was reported nearby as greater than 10km.
