Wondered if anyone knew why there was an Avro Lancaster flying over south Manchester this afternoon?

Not the best picture but by the time I’d heard the Merlins and managed to get my phone out it was already flying away.

I had an inkling it was flying over South East Wales yesterday.

Ah, I assumed it must have been something like that. I saw Shuttleworth was on this weekend but the Lancaster wasn’t in its lineup

They've all been doing little flypasts for village fetes etc on their way to Coningsby from the Wales Airshow.

Is there a way of seeing it’s flight path before it takes off? It’s supposed to be going over Worcestershire in a couple of weeks I think.

We’re at war with Germany again, and it’s the only serviceable bomber we have.

Went over me in Suffolk a few weeks ago, the sound was incredible, a proper goosebumps moment

Probably flying over its spiritual birthplace at Woodford, near Stockport, even though PA474 was built in Hawarden rather than by Avro themselves. There's almost nothing left of the old Avro / BAe factory at Woodford now, although the Avro heritage museum is small but worth a look if you're passing.

They used to stick out a facebook post with the forthcoming weekend schedule but for whatever reason have stopped doing so this year.

And as we found out yesterday, they may also turn up early without warning any local fete announcers so it's a good idea to keep track of something like ADSB exchange to monitor the flightpath in real time biggrin

I heard it yesterday and ran out to see but a combination of cloud cover and bright sunshine (who knew) meant I couldn't see it, sounded low pity I missed it (Aire Valley W Yorks)

It must have been this flying over Shelsley Walsh hill climb yesterday at 14.30.

Took everyone by surprise but looking at the pic I snapped, definitely a Lancaster.

I guess it gets posted as a legal requirement on NOTAMS. If you can be bothered to look. I saw the Red arrows flying up the Bristol channel the other day, while soaring a glider at 3500ft.
OK, maybe boasting a little, but hell, why not?

I wonder how long the Lanc can be kept flying. Would they manufacture eg new main wing spars for it in due course?

Newly manufactured wing spars were fitted a few years back.

This one flies over my back garden fairly regularly in summer, lovely noise!
